I’m not going to lie, when I started writing Charlotte about being my personal trainer, I didn’t even think I was being serious. She was inspiring to me, and I thought there’s no way in hell I’d be brave enough to go to a gym (let alone pay someone to watch me work out), but I went for it. Growing up, I was always playing sports and lived an active lifestyle. When I was 20 years old that all changed when I had my thyroid removed because my doctor believed that I had thyroid cancer. I ended up being cancer-free but the thyroid hormone I took every day was not balanced with my body, so I gained weight extremely fast and had no energy to work out. After years of working with different doctors to try to balance my thyroid hormone levels, I was finally starting to feel more like myself, but with an extra 70 pounds on me. I began my weight loss journey in January of 2016 and was able to drop some weight on my own but in October of 2016, I decided to start change things up and join the gym. I immediately jumped in with a personal trainer which has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Since I have been training with Charlotte, I feel like I am in the best shape of my life. I am eating better, I am stronger, and I am down 60 pounds since I first started my weight loss journey. My current goal is to continue building muscle and losing body fat. I am currently about 20 pounds from my goal weight and I am excited to have Charlotte helping me with my goals through the rest of my journey!

I have gone through 3 different training goals with Zach. First I wanted to lose weight. Zach developed training and coached me through my eating habits. After I met that goal I wanted to train for a Firefighter Combat challenge. Zach was able to develop a very specific training program and help me get to a physical point where I felt I could do well in the challenge. After that I wanted to do some heavy weight lifting. Zach’s knowledge on the human anatomy and how it pertains to lifting is amazing. I have known Zach since 2015 and he has never stopped learning. He is constantly improving himself. I cannot thank you enough for what you’ve helped me accomplish. I could write a novel explaining all the ways you’ve helped me in all different aspects of my life. Being a young mom, I quickly lost myself. I don’t regret the years of focusing on raising my little human or being a good wife. But Charlotte helped me refocus on what matters the most, myself. While I have no plans to stop making gains with Charlotte, I’m satisfied with what I see in the mirror now. I fit comfortably in between a size 6 and 8. I don’t calculate and weigh everything I eat. I eat intuitively and don’t attach feelings to food anymore. A stressful day doesn’t turn into an evening of binge eating junk food any longer. A night of pizza with my kids doesn’t make me feel guilty or cause me to starve myself for the next day to make up for eating “badly” the night before… I have a very hectic life with kids and a demanding job, and I look forward to my time training with Charlotte each week to focus on myself and manage stress. I am in such a better physical and emotional place since starting my journey with her. She has been a phenomenal trainer, coach, and cheerleader throughout my process.

I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that signing up for personal training with Charlotte changed my life. Before beginning my workouts with her, I had a completely different view of being healthy. My body image was tied to the scale and I weighed myself every day. My mood for the day was directly tied to what the number was each morning and my only goal was to lose weight. My routine had always been diet, cardio, fall of the wagon, give up, eat everything and quit working out. I was a master at yo-yo dieting and going to the gym 4 times a week for a couple of months and then being absent for a year. The clothes in my closet ranged from a size 6 to a size 14, and I could fit anywhere in that range depending on where I was in my cycle of dieting or gaining. My weight ranged anywhere from 140-165lbs. When I first sat down with Charlotte and she asked what my goals were, my only target was to be at 130lbs. She encouraged me to focus more on my total body fat percentage and explained that weight lifting would help burn fat and give my body a more lean, defined look. I agreed to go along with it since what I was doing clearly hadn’t worked for me. I’ve worked with Charlotte once a week for 15 months, and in that time, I’ve never had a bad workout or felt like it was redundant. Every workout she has known my limits better than I have. She knows how to keep the workouts new, which weight to select for me, and motivates me during the hardest of sets when I think I won’t be able to complete them. She is an expert at challenging me to the outer limits of my capabilities, but never pushes beyond them. In the 15 months I’ve been training with Charlotte, she has become a life coach aside from just a personal trainer. During our sessions we have talked about my obsession with the number on the scale and my eating habits. We identified triggers for my emotional eating and while I had been tracking everything I ate and weighing myself religiously, we concluded that those habits were leading to my unhealthy relationships with food. While that works for others, it was making me unhappy and ultimately setting me up for failure and leading to my cycle of falling off the wagon and gaining more weight. Charlotte was fantastic at listening and offering resources, guidance, patience, and encouragement throughout this process. I’ve had trainers in the past give me a strict diet plan and there was no tolerance of not sticking to it, regardless of my hunger or whether that plan worked for me. Charlotte never gave me a one-size-fits-all approach and expected me to conform. Instead, we explored my individual needs and struggles together, and she helped guide me with her extensive knowledge on training and nutrition. Since working with Charlotte, I can now say I have a healthy body image and a better relationship with food. There are whole months now where the only time I step on the scale is during my monthly weigh-in at the gym. Have I made it to 130lbs? Nope. Do I want to? Nope. While my weight since beginning with Charlotte has not fluctuated as much as I originally thought I wanted, my body composition has completely changed. At my highest point with Charlotte I weighed 159 lbs. My body fat percentage was 28.6% and my BMI was 26.5. As of 9/15/17, I weigh 147lbs. My body fat percentage is 25.8% and my BMI is 24.5. I have lost 7.5 inches overall and have muscle definition that has earned several compliments. While I have no plans to stop making gains with Charlotte, I’m satisfied with what I see in the mirror now. I fit comfortably in between a size 6 and 8. I don’t calculate and weigh everything I eat.
